From the West Coast Sharks:
SHARKS BEAT PANTHERS 34-7 TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED

OXNARD, Calif. (Sept. 17, 2005) – The West Coast Sharks won at home against the out-manned Bakersfield Panthers team 34-7 in a California Football Association minor league football game at Rio Mesa High School. The victory ran the Sharks’ record to 5-0 in the CFA and 7-0 overall.

The Sharks jumped out quickly and never trailed. They scored four times in the first half and led 27-7 at the half.

“Every win is important,” said Sharks coach Tony Downs. “We had four tough games at the start of the CFA season, so this one felt pretty good.”

Johnny Jackson, the Sharks’ starting quarterback threw for 165 yards and three touchdown passes before giving way to backup Mike Jasper in the second half. Jackson threw scoring passes to Jeramie Ruell, Jason Goss and Aaron Hehe.

Jamarr Johnson and Raymar Adams scored rushing touchdowns for the home team. As a team, the Sharks rushed for 192 yards

The Panthers (1-5, 0-5) near the end of the first half, at the end of their only sustained drive of the game. They gained 141 yards passing, but finished with negative rushing yardage.

“Our defense played fairly well,” said Downs. “We pressured their quarterback all night. I thought Dave Davis, our defensive end, played very well.”

This game had saw big hits as well as big hearts as the Panthers gave their all against the Sharks. The Sharks pride themselves on professionalism, integrity and sportsmanship as both teams showed alot of respect to each others football programs. The Sharks played every single player available on their roster to see to it that this was a Total Team effort. Our hats go off to the Bakerfield Panthers and their entire staff for this great game we played on Saturday night.

The Sharks play the Antelope Valley Dirtdevils Sept. 24 at Pacifica High School in Oxnard. The kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

This is also Team Photo Day which is scheduled for 6:15 pm prior to the game.

From the Inglewood Blackhawks:
Blackhawks Dominate Smash, 31-14
Fullback Dewayne Hervey Running For a Blackhawk First DownLos Angeles, CA. - On a night that saw the Blackhawks return to their signature black look, the crowd saw a great display of football as the Blackhawks dominated the Southern California Smash in CFA/LCFL West action, 31-14 at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The Blackhawks kicked off to the Smash only to see Smash return man, Andre Velazquez fumble the opening kickoff which was recovered by (WR) J.T. Thompson. On the first play from scrimmage, (QB) Brennan Crooks hit (WR) Covy Thomas for a 19 yard touchdown. (K) Guiseppe Cracchiolo kicked the extra point making the score 7-0 twenty two seconds into the game. After that, the Blackhawks offense took flight as Crooks passed for 254 yards and 3 touchdowns. Crooks had touchdown passes of 66 yards to (WR) Sirr Parker, 52 yards to (WR) Brian Carter, and 19 yards to (WR) Covy Thomas. Both Carter and Parker went over the century mark again in receiving yards as Carter had 3 receptions for 104 yards and Parker had 3 receptions for 120 yards. On the ground, (RB) Donald Carpenter ran for 72 yards on 11 carries and 1 touchdown. (FB) Andre Gaines looked good as well running for the Blackhawks. The defense played an excellent game, looking for their 4th consecutive shutout. It didn't pan out that way as the Smash scored after getting great field position on a botched punt. Other than miscues by the Blackhawk punting unit, the Smash never threatened the Blackhawk defense with any sustained drives. The defense saw (DB) James Teele intercept his league leading 5th pass of the season. Teele had 3 tackles on the night as well. (LB) J.J. Johnson back in action after two weeks off, had another interception for the Blackhawk defense. (LB) Shawn Shamsid-Deen, (DL) Sam Square, and (DB) Woe-Life Seals all had stellar performances from the defensive side of the ball. But the game ball went to (DB) Domonique Carter who shut down the 2004 CFA Offensive Player of the Year, Andre Velazquez. Velazquez is always a threat to his opponents but Carter had other things in mind as he kept the ball out of Velazquez hands limiting him to "NO" receptions on the night. Carter had 5 pass defenses defending Velazquez as the Smash tried diligently to get the ball into his hands. Velazquez was also kept to minimal yards on 6 kick returns. Warehouse Shoe Sales chose (WR) Sirr Parker as it's Offensive Player of the Week while choosing (DB) Domonique Carter as their Defensive Player of the Week. The Blackhawks will now focus their attention to the Long Beach Lions who defeated the North County Cobras 23-0. This will be the second consecutive week the Blackhawks will be featured in the CFA Game of the Week. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Long Beach Veterans Memorial Stadium.
